I thoguth you said in an earlier post that they would have antiarmor rockets.

[and a gunship whith miniguns and antitank rockets]

hm...

Prehaps 3 types of VTOL craft-
one thats a fighter/interceptor that lookes all cool
one thats more of a support gunship, and can carry a few people
and one that is a fluyign APC with the firepower of a tank-but slowish and bad manuverality (since its got so much guns and missals)

hows abotu it?

SqurielLord, are you related to Icarus? You share a similar accent Very Happy

Interesting ideas about air units, they are just the type of thing that causes problems in strategy games. There seems to be two options: offscreen Airstrikes, as with the game 'Blitzkrieg', or hovering aircraft. Fast moving units are too uncontrollable, and how would you ever select them? With a futuristic title as Battlescape is, hover units seem to be the sensible choice. Perhaps something along the lines of Advance Wars - paper/scissors/stone system: Bombers are great against everything but have no defence. Helicopters are good against ground units and . Fighters are only good against other air units.

It is a turn based game, so its ideas probably do not apply here. The clear distinction in the roles of the aircraft is nice to see however.

NO! post went all messy and dissapered! >_< must start from scratch....

So teh ideas ore:

VTOL interceptor
Gunships
dropships
bobmbers

OR
VTOL interceptor/gunship
dropships
bombers

And maybe a flying aircraft carrier-THAT would be as cool as a Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zeplin concernt with free tickets for restraining-order distance seats Very Happy m a person who lieks rock muzik

but with teh dropships-would they be orbitla or atmoshperic?

Cuz in one post it think gober-the one with teh cat avator-whoever-
Said that there was the possoblity of 3 versions-ground, sea&air, then space.

Or would we have atmospheric AND orbtial dropships? Or are tehy dropships bolth?

I WANNA PELICAN DROPSHIP! Wink COPYRIGHT INFRINGMENT!

So weve got A-A,A-G, and trnasport anyways

Just got to decide on # of unit types & what they do

Thank you fro your time

How about drop pods a la Halo 2 or Warhammer 40K style. This would be dropped by a HUGE cargo carrying whale like thingy. In 40K when doing a drop pod insertion theyd drop drop pods with gun batterys in them, to provide suppressive fire. Maybe the same could be applied with Battlescape, when a drop commences, these gun pods drop, shoot everything up for 10 secconds reducing moral and then the troops destroy the rest.

Bah. Space marines drops pods=okay. What you really need it Deep-striking anti-grav APC's liek tau devilfishes...execpt they cant deep strike.

Drop opds is a good ideas.

But tau ar ebtter than marines cuz GW's bised torwards them-us mechies ahev to work our asses off...imagien if they didnt get laz/plas/tac squads, devestators, or ....GRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!1 Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Sorry for the 40k rant.

Drop pods are a good idea. Or the dropship ideas we discussed earier.

Dropship1: Deploys form Low orbit station, comes down wiht unit of troops, lands, fires, adn takes back off. El super speedy, but expensive&low capacity/weapons. $$$

Dropship2:Atmospheric/sub-orbital. Slow compared to re-entry dropship. Carried 1-3 units, Chian guns, & frag rockets. (clear up a hot LZ.) $$

VTOL fighters: Atmospheric/sub-orbs. $ can buy bombs for more $

Space-fighters: Defend/attack LEO stations, can fight stuff in sup-orbitasl. Bombs options as well. $$$

Elite fighter: VTOL&Boost inot orbits, huge range&firepowers-missasl & lasers. Hella expensive. $$$$

Shuttles: Boardign action & on LEO stations, Can re-enter and carry a butlod of troops. slow&un-armed. $$$$

Here are my aircraft - most from a game called Tiberian Sun.

Orca fighter - fast , maneuverable, pretty cheap, rockets inaccurate, point-blank area of effect, lots of ammo, capable of air to air

Orca bomber - slightly sluggish, bit more expensive , bombs (of course),
when attacking, flies in a straight line and drops bombs, they have a large area of effect so accuracy doesn't matter, ammo for 2 runs

Heavy orca bomber - handles like a sofa, really expensive, heavy bombs,
similar to above, but bombs are much more powerful, and even less ammo

Banshee - maneuverability rival to orca fighter, costs as much as a bomber, plasma bombs, point-blank area of effect, but always hit target dead-center, enough ammo for 3 runs, capable of air to air

Hover MRLS - not really an aircraft, hovers 5in above the ground, can cross water and crevasses, rockets similar to orca fighter but more accurate and more ammo,
