I've found a couple of times in the 5 minute survival that when the map gets full of gems the spawn rate of the bad guys slows down, sometimes leaving me with only a couple of people to kill or none at all.

Usually after minute or two the map fills up with gems from blasted asteroids and ships (I don’t bother collecting most of them) and when there get enough, the enemy stop spawning so often, I end up sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for someone to turn up to shoot at, or chasing across the map to hunt down a straggler, is this my imagination or is the game throttling back the number of enemies when there are lots of object on the map?

If it is could you ease it by self destructing gems rather than reducing the enemies?

This could all be coincidence or my imagination tho

That may well happen, I always assumed people would pick resources up in survival mode as it helps you get more powerful. If you don't and the level gets clogged up then there are mechanisms in the background to prevent slow down which could start to kick in. Never noticed this happening in practice though, but then i usually manage to pick ~75% of the resource up fairly quickly.

I find collecting gems from asteroids and destroyed normal enemy ships takes too much time, I recon I get enough gems from the capital ships.

Can you remember if the reduced spawning is triggered by the number of objects on screen ( i will try to destroy/collect more gems) or by the frame rate (free up resourses on my machine)?

thanks

Is that the problem? I very frequently find that late in 5 minute survival--after I've gotten the last ship I'm going to, and start focusing on killing things instead of picking up gems--that there suddenly ceases to be much to kill! Very frustrating to be flying around in a powerful ship, watching those last, precious 30 seconds run out... with nothing to fight.

It's the gems, huh? In that case, I better start shooting gems I don't plan on picking up. Thanks.

I find restarting if the map is full of asteroids can help but if the ships in zone2 drop lots of minerals it takes forever to get them. The second avenger can get rid of gems but really you need beam weapons.
