Especially tanks and mechs.
Will you be able to kill the crew, but leaving the vehicle more or less intact, so that you can take it over with your crew?

A nice idea but technically tricky, I suppose you could have a squad that has lost its transport getting into any abandoned/damaged vehicles they come across.

firs you have to repaair it thoe so its a good idea to have an engineer in your squad

seeing as the new starwars game... battlefront of whatever it is... is suffering from that same quality, i dont think its a good idea.

from what i heard about battlefront is that all sides are pretty even in multiplayer, but after a game starts, everyone makes a mad-dash for the best vehicle, and after aquiring it, lay waste to everyone else.

granted this game wont have the same scale, but when vehicles are really valuable, and you can effectively trade one foot soldier in for a vehicle, it becomes unbalancing.

we shouldent have that problem beacuse

A. if you like veacles you can start out whith veacles

B. infintry usualy have a anti armor weppon (LAW, RPG, bazoka, ect)
so thay can desroy a tank easly

besides, in other games capturign stuff is a pain-in AEO 2 my monks get slaughtered by mauroudign war eleifants. ELEIFANTS!

but amybe you could salvage teh vehicle for scrap $.

Or after you killed of the vehivle crew of something, you could fly in your own crew via aircraft (mech commander 2 style) or request a trained driver/operator crew (take some time to arrive, is unarmed, no ther use, but take a vehicle)
It may also cost some res, you may have spared for reinforcements.

With this option (dirver crew) implemented, it would also allow you to rescue your crew from a destroyed vehicle (the have a changse to get out, when its critical damaged before it blows up.
So all the experience is stored in the crew, not in the vehicle.
So rescue them from the battle and get them a new tank so you can start out the next round with a verteran already (but no swapping between classes allowed, so your apc crew with three gold stars :p gets into a killer talos and rules the wohle battlefield.)
You would only get the option to reinforce the squad, wich means they get there vehicle back (wich costs of course, some)

(this is c&c generals style, me thinks, or of course CloseCombat ^^)

OR
the crew stays in a destroyed vehicle (if not blown up) and you can call in for a rescue copter (wich can be shot down bys the enmy if you donīt control the area of the wreck)

Personally i like the ideas with the copter the most, if you know MC2 its hell cool to capture a mech with this copter and i think it would be great as hell, too to get your crew out of that talos after it is incapable of fighing 8because leg blew of or whatever)

So why donīt give them the ability to abandon their transport by their own will, so they donīt have to "loose it" (FFanyone ?)
After they did so they can get in their new vehicle and the old transportation gets blown to bits

but where would they get a new vehcile? It wouldnt be woth it to airlift another APC w/o crew to teh crew who abandoned tehir APC. but if the APC crew hijacks a harvester adn starts slicign adn dicifg teh enemy infantry....

you might need to work on your blood and gore grpahics.

yeah, accept that would be heavily abused. not to mention that usually people are very specialized in their job in an army... so its not very practical in a realistic concept either.

thats why i said, no unit swapping allowed.
After the battle you can get the crew only the vehicle they were used to (at a lower price, since you donīt have to train the crew) not a new, maybe stronger one.

Well, it would seem to me that all you would need to do would be to add a "belongs to" variable and whenever the verhicle is occupied set the "owner" to "anyone"
