We should give reference to all the Homage:

Asimov...... Issac Asimov creator of the 'Three Laws of Robotics'
Eildolon ..... named for the race of 'Peace Makers' from 'Farscape'
................. and based on the 'Macross' from Macross/Robotech
Nanomeks/
Hueys ...... based on the Drones from 'Silent Running'
The big red Robots in the
computer cores.... based on Maximillion from 'the Black Hole'
Shuttles.... smaller version of star trek DS9's runnabouts
................ and named 'Dark Star' after the movie

Others things I though of but can't nail down names or Types.
Virtual On (VG) - one of robot

I'm sure others can help finish the list...

Well spotted. Actually though, some aren't right (or technically are, but we got them from another source).

Eidolon is a greek word meaning a phantom-double of the human form. Which is where it came from for us. Actually, I checked the word out on wikipedia, and there's a ton of scifi stuff that references it.

Really? Smile anyone got a picture? They are actually a modified version of the runabout in Starscape. This would be pretty interesting as I've only ever seen one episode of Deep Space 9. (one was enough! To be honest, I pretty much hate all the Trek series except the original. Mark is the trekkie at Moonpod).
EDIT-Is this the one you mean?:

I can see the similarities. I swear I never saw it until this morning though!!!

There's 4 different shuttle names. I forget them now, but I think they were mentioned in the dev diary somewhere.

Again, I am aware of the series, but haven't played it. Would be cool to see a pic. Maybe there's a twin out there for one of our robots.[/quote]

I think there's at least another two bad guys with a movie influence.

Well, can I assume that the concept of I.C.E. and I.C.E Breaker are homages to Garibaldi from Babylon5, who has to face one infecting the computer core (and writes an I.C.E. Breaker to crack it)? Smile

Nope - ICE and ICE Breakers are a fairly common scifi concept, the earliest mention of it, for me, is in William Gibson's excellent book Neuromancer.

BTW - babylon5 was a fantastic series, although mentioning scifi series is not allowed unless someone brings up firefly (sorry, but I just watched Serenity for the 6th time).

B5 was, without a doubt, my favourite Sci-Fi series of all time.. until Firefly. In fact, I just picked up the Serenity RPG Smile

A couple more:

1138 (Asimov's reference number) - THX 1138, title and main character name of a '71 sci-fi movie by Lucas
'Broken motivator' (the very first rogue bot Asimov encounters is not functioning because of this) - Star Wars, Episode 4 (origional first movie), "Hey Uncle Owen, this droid has a bad motivator! Look!"

Seems to me that Zelda is from the game series Legend of Zelda and Raistlin is a reference to a Dragonlance character of a similar name. But then again, they could only be similarities.

And yes, I thought of Garibaldi too when I saw ICE.

1138 is used several times in Star Wars. A couple of examples: In Episode IV, Luke says "Prisoner transfer from cell block 1138," when dressed as a stormie and delivering Chewie to the detention block. In one of the prequels, there's a battle droid with a stylized 1138 on its back.

Eidolons are also the names for the summons in one of the Final Fantasy games. I think Final Fantasy 8 or 9.

Eidolons are also in City of Heroes, as boss-class enemies of the Vahzilok faction (a collection of mad doctors and cybernetic zombies).

I assumed Zelda was named after the popular Nintendo princess, because the developer diary with her references LoZ.
