"Deep eyes" troops from FF:Spirits Within - they look cool and are half way between basic/cheap infantry and total sci-fi powered armour (i.e. Space marines in WarHammer40K for example).

I think I preffer the desolation look more.
Like in fallout, or the ones Juan made for INF:

http://www.nmebase.net/artwork/gallery1/infantrypose.jpg

X-Com alliance also had some pretty designs (x-com always had neat designs really).
There are also the various hitman-like bodyplating...for those of us who like to go solo and kick major ***.
Such as X-men's cable.
http://members.aol.com/drg4/cablepic.jpg
Not to mention, Crusader.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/wokhoss/crusader.JPG (those white-red-blue silencer suits looked the coolest, not to mention the rest of the soldiers uniforms).
Incase you had gotten to have it, Jack Butcher from assassin 2015, cool armor design.
Or like that guy in marvel's comic who's half vampire (I keep forgetting...) or the one about the hitman/assassin.

Sci-Fi armor designs aren't hard to come by.

You can have anything from the predator, to a personall powersuit/mecha and back to a biological uber armor/suit like that alien symbiote in spiderman, spawn or this guy.

You have the cheap basic armor like in starship troopers.
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Olympus/7790/stfullgr.jpg
(I preffered the ones in the CGIed TV show)
And there are ones like that:
http://www.3dactionplanet.com/eliteforce/owen/trooper.jpg

And cheap armors like in planetscape.
Or you can have cheap personal armors like the way Yankee think they should be.
http://www.nmebase.net/?id=artwork/gallery3/index
Also heres one more plate armor nicely done:
http://www.valley.ru/~team/gallery/timur/pics/infantry.jpg
Furthermore, this guy has some cool design for cheap armor.
http://ew2.lysator.liu.se/zone/b/r/brian3000/infantry.jpg

And thus forth.

Hope that I've gathered enough material for your research to find something you'll really like and can build upon by your imagination.

However, what you really should think of, is what kind of infantry-type personall (function, main weapon, etc.) you want, and then adjust the armor/uniform/suit accordingly to that aspect.
IE a survivalist (or infiltrator or whatever you wish to call those one-man-army types) would have cheap armor, probably with cloak or something.
Regulars (dune sardukar/starwars clones:white-black armor, IE the expendable plenty of guys) would have somewhat more of a protection.
Then you have the fat sluggish skirmishers who got some nice armor and heavy weapon platforms.
And so on and so on.

Why do they have to be covered head to toe in "futuristic" "sci-fi" armor? If you have limited tech and resources wouldnt you just hand out guns and maybe a light flak jacket and tell em to go have at it? Thats just my 2 cents worth on this matter. BTW nice uhhh "cup" on the beta soldier Laughing

Like that but more rugged. Like no mask but you see those hoses? I wanna see those, for like the standerd troop for the Anchrid. And they look like thier slaves or something. Something crazy awsome. Wink
Ill find more!

<SAD ALERT!>

I actually built some fullsize futuristic armour once based on the stuff the marines wear in Aliens. Made it using multiple fibre layers and a resin bond, it turned out to be pretty flexible and easy to move in. Unfortunately I used too much (or too little) resin hardener, and the entire thing dissolved into my bedroom carpet over the course of a month.

THEY'RE COMING OUTTA THE WALLS!!!!!!

Have some sort of soldier that has minigun type things mounted on both arms, supported by a partial exoskeleton thing... hmmm. I guess you could have multi-layer type things with that, you could span it from pneumatic pistons and beams with machine guns to heavily built upon with armor and triple miniguns on each arm like in the screenshots for that game Chronicles of Riddlin (or something like that).

Like those things from the Matrix Revolutions! You know, the exoskeleton gun-mech things, which completely fail to armour or otherwise protect the single most vulnerable component, the pilot. And are placed on a platform that allows the enemy to surround them in three dimensions. I wonder how many casualties were friendly fire. ;)

ya... but thoes things were still cool, one thing about the movie. why is it that a machien piloted by a human can take out like 50 of thoes sentanal things, and things controled by computers with perfict aim suck,

i mean, if you give a sentanal a pistol in each arm then you wouldent lose so many would you ^.^

One word, buddy: LAG. They think you're where you were half a minute ago!

I would expect the Archnid to have non-anthropromorphic drones as standard footsoldiers.

You know what would be cool, is if there was a vehicle with treads that could lock up and become feet on a walker, so it could roll on smooth terrain and walker over the rough stuff / for a higher vantage point.

It'd be interesting to have soldiers with old imperial style uniforms:

http://www.toy-soldiers.ca/eoi/ccj203.jpg

The pics vary, but the style has obvious traits that you guys can spawn from... extremely elaborate and ornate design, based with the partial concept that decor trumped design. This normally evolved from the notation that looking impressive had a tactical advantage(you're intimidating), while defensive differences in armor is minimal, except for material compositon.

Would be great to see what you guys can design.

For theme, if you're going with futuristic, have them use some kind of
micro-shield generator that's included in their belt buckles(like StarTrek/StarWars/StarScape shields). These could, of course, be upgraded, while the imperialesque costumes would be more rank based than anything. Perhaps have a faint aura around them that matches the color of the defensive shield used, so the player knows... red for first level shields, green for second, and so on.

EDIT: The link for http://www.divideby0.com/cosplay/zhaoyun/images/zhaoyun_m.jpg
does exist, you just need to copy-paste it into your browser's address bar(no idea why the direct link doesn't work).
