No, we didn't. Originally it was to be called "Star Warrior", but that was a bit naff and turned up a lot on Google. We brainstormed and someone (not me, can't remember who) came up with "Starscape". It didn't show up on Google as a game (or tv show ), and didn't sound half bad, so we went with it.
I think I pointed out the "Farscape" rhyming somewhere along the line, but we didn't think that was a bad thing |

Actually, the name is inspired by the annual clubbing festival in Baltimore

Heh, something I've been meaning to ask for awhile was whether or not you guys took the name "Prowler" from Farscape, as it's the name of a type of ship there.
Oddly enough, I never noticed the title similarity. |

Other than the chance that some influences may have entered our subconcious, there are only three indirect name influences in the game (that I can think of). One is obviously the default player name, and the other two were character names. Although if we pointed out where the names came from, you would be aware of he quality of film we were watching at the time so I'd better not go there...
The game name arose from narrowing down an extensive list of the most awful game names imaginable. In production it was code named 'Star Warrior' and after going though every possible permutation it mutated into Starscape (Not to mention the beta crew, friends and family all threatened us with bodily harm if we used Star Warrior. They hated it so much!!)
Poo Bear named all the ships mind, so Prowler might be another homage... |
