Well I never seem to be able to play my games when I go somewhere without WiFi. |

I think the trick is to put steam into offline mode. If it was in the middle of downloading a patch, then it won't help any, but if the game is up to date for when you lost internet connection, offline mode should let you play.
That's my vague memory from a year or two ago, anyway. |

Tied that. Didn't work. It even told me "This game can not be played in offline mode". |

I suppose different games must be able to set different policies. Which game is it you're talking about? |

Is it fully downloaded? It's possible to play games without downloading the whole lot, because it will download the later stuff while you're playing. It's a while since I used Steam, but I think there's an option to set on each game to say whether you want it to make the game available for offline play, and a percentage indicator of how much is downloaded. |

I don't really think this is the problem. Its been up to date (since 2006 ) and I downloaded it several months ago.
It just won't allow me to play if it can't verify who I am. You don't have to keep chucking suggestions at me. *hides* |

Well, I can throw suggestions or dictionaries, but you seem to be on best behaviour with regard to spelling. (Cue Konedima correcting "Its been" to "It's been".) So, it'll have to be suggestions then:
R U SURE ITS PLUGD IN?
HAEV U TRIED TURNING IT OF AND ON AGENN??
TRI REEINSTALING EVRETHING
Etc., etc.... |

I hate it when people do this. "DO YOU **** THINK I WOULD ASK FOR **** HELP IF I HAVEN'T ALREADY TRIED!" Is what it makes me want to scream every time I call customer support. |

icarus wrote: | I hate it when people do this. "DO YOU **** THINK I WOULD ASK FOR **** HELP IF I HAVEN'T ALREADY TRIED!" I Doesn't need capitalisation as it is part of the same sentence as the quote s what it makes me want to scream every time I call customer support. |
Weeble wrote: | Cue Konedima correcting "Its been" to "It's been". | Actually, neither are correct in this instance. "It's" is a contraction for it is, which is present tense. The sentence icarus wrote: | Its been up to date (since 2006 ) and I downloaded it several months ago. | is in the past tense. The correct use would be it has. |

Actually, "it's" is correct here; it's an acceptable contraction for both "it is" and "it has" in both UK and US English. I'm not aware of Aussie English being different in this respect, but I don't think I've ever had to deal with that professionally, so I couldn't swear to it. |

I agree. I've never seen a style guide that disallowed "it's" for "it has". |
