They have a variety of factors working in their favor, from the Law of Ninja Effectiveness to the cooperation of the Dread Pirate Roberts. Heck, they even have superior technology! All of you ninja? You have no chance to survive, make your time, etc. etc. |

You're still misunderstanding Ninja mechanics - the identities of Ninjas were shrouded in such secrecy (partly for the Ninjas' sakes, partly as Psychological Warfare), the Pirates wouldn't know what Establishment to shell.
Also, of course Katanas aren't bullet-proof. However, guns aren't Katana-proof, either. A good Katana can cut cleanly through metal (Matrix Reloaded demonstrated this fact for me), to say nothing of the mostly wood-compositions of 16- and 17-century rifles.
Besides, I can buy a Katana here in Massachusetts. |
