Was torn between putting this in the multiplayer thread and the mod thread, so:

It'd be extremely useful for both of these if an "unplugged" variation of the aegis were available-- one that functions normally in node-space, but when entered, would have a sub-screen for allowing the modification of itself and of ships, with a very small build option... basically, the ability to use build/research/equip menus without ever leaving node-space.

This would allow some multiplayer stuff for both MP's design and player mods, without having the issues of zone recoding and whatnot. This would also offer more options to work with on a single-node game, as mods would, of course, be.

This would make both aspects interesting, as for multi-player, it means that a 4 player game would be able to share one Aegis(although the guy that keeps getting stuck with the run-about might be snippy about it! Wink ), and it would be cooperative in that respect(everyone's sharing minerals on the Aegis, so of course you're working together). Further, as this would allow for alot of mutability of design(such as what pods can/cannot be toggled/added, which ship designs are playable, resource costs, and the like), the mods for this would be inherently more-interesting than they would be for single-player survival mode.

There's some interesting ideas, but they are discussing modding something that will never exist (at least for Starscape 1) namely mutiplayer. Nice ideas though, maybe if we do a sequel.
