Project terminology
Design : paper and whiteboards, lots of discussion. Results in design documents.
Pre-alpha : turn the design into a prototype, this shows if any of these ideas will even work and how long it will likely take. Results in more detailed design documents and a schedule.
Alpha : editors, tools, game code and art start getting ground out, this is the longest and most depressing phase of development. Results in playable version of the game with all content.
Beta : the games starts getting tested, bugs mount up, everything starts getting polished up ready for release. Public/private testing begins. Results in release candidate.
Final : publishing deals, language translations, review copies, disc duplication. Results in final gold master.
current status = Alpha
The high concept design work is finished and some basic prototypes are emerging with which to test the practicality of that design. The current goal is to get very rudimentary game play prototype functioning.
Release date: sometime post Mr Robot, if making Mr. Robot doesn't put us in hospital...
Note: everything can and will change.

Like... 10 months from now. Go worry about something else, like Halo 2... |

Gah! thanks for pointing that out. We really are exhibiting textbook game developer timekeeping
Still, it looks like Mr. Robot will be out before Duke Nukem Forever. |

They have elbows, don't they? And feet with toes? And a nose? This could turn them into super-human game developers of DOOM! I say, you NEED to do this! |

Silly boy. They need their heads to see the code. Or at least their faces. And possibly their grey matter. But hands? Pish-posh! |
