We haven't had a poll in a long time, so I guess the title says it all...

I have to admit, even though I knew what I would vote for, it's painful to be forced into a decision... Crying or Very sad

If you don't know... Very Happy

As intense as it is... if I were to have children, I would make sure they had access to this movie.

---
OT, again ... Embarassed

I guess I'm weird, but one game I want them to have access to is Planescape: Torment.

One game I will *not* let them play early is Starscape. No sir. Starscape goes on that list of things I need a "How To Talk To Your Kids About..." book for. Razz

My fav is "Spirited Away". I'm looking forward to the new movie from the Ghibli Studios, "Howl's moving Castle".

We were really lucky to have a Ghibli season at the Sheffield Showroom cinema - we saw loads there.

I noticed that it seems impossible to get hold of many Ghibli DVDs in the UK now - Castle in the Sky and many others have been discontinued - I think they were only on sale for a year too!

If I didn't have most of them already, I'd consider this deal:

http://dddhouse.com/dddhouse/en/index.jsp?action=productDetail&productID=3852

£135 for 11 Ghibli films!

I really should've gone to more of those.

It's a shame that there are a load of short films that you can't get to see without going to the Ghibli museum. The one I saw when I went - The Whale Hunt - was really nice, so I'd like to see more of them. Y'know, without having to go half way around the world.

More useful might be this...
Photo Album

There's also an exhibition in Paris, Miyazaki and Moebius are showing 300 of their workings. http://www.miyazaki-moebius.com/ - Only french Sad

Sigh, I love Moebius' work too. On until the 13th of March; If we weren't in Mr. Robot crunch mode I'd think about it, and Paris is lovely this time of year (not that I'd know, I just always wanted to say that Wink )

I watched Princess Mononoke tonight for the first time. I will need to watch it when I am not a bit tipsy on red wine, as I don't think I caught all its subtleties. So far as I could tell it was superficially a man versus nature story that was really about conflict and cycles of hatred in general. It seemed to have something to say about gender too, but I don't think I could be sure about it without seeing the film again. Overall I liked it, but it made me feel very morose. In fact, I feel sad.

If you want to feel utterly depressed, watch 'Grave of the fireflies'. A lot of Ghibli films have a little bit of a morose undertone. Even Kiki's delivery Service has a slightly melancholy last third where Kiki essentially loses her witch powers due to depression. Very Happy

I was even about to say 'My Neighbour Totoro' was the only film that is pure happiness in a can - but the whole premise is a father taking his two daughters away to the countryside because their mother is really ill. Sad

On windows - hold down alt and type 0228 then let go of alt.

you can find any of those combos out using the character map tool installed with windows.
