Wii just hit 45million units sold (eek!) - that's well on its way to taking the crown from the PS2 (140million) considering how long the Wii has been out.

Odd thing though, I don't think there are any games on it I want?

WiiPlay - got it at xmas, played it to death, lots of fun.
WiiSports - same as above.
MarioParty - same as above.
WiiFit - excellent piece of software, I wouldn't say I "enjoy" playing it though, but marvellous.

Virutal Console - i've still got all my old hardware and don't tend to reminisce too much, it did catch me with Zelda:LinkToThePast just because the new Zelda on Wii was so average.

The biggest let down is the WiiWare - no demos? what the hell is going on with that? LostWinds is nice looking, but after playing it in a shop I wasn't convinced, seemed ok, a pretty platformer with a gimmicky control system. World of Goo is on PC anyway, not that I was that taken with it anyhow.

It's odd to see a games console where I don't really like or grok most of the games and the ones I do like have to be classified separately i.e. party games or serious games.

I guess it's a games console that caters to non-traditional games and therefore I can't really compartmentalise and classify what is coming out on it. I never really played party games before the Wii. Reviews aren't much help, most are written by young hard core single males who don't like any of it. This is exactly the situation where I need to play demos, the thing goes online and has a phat SD card shoved in it, yet I cannot demo anything!! Maybe cooking mama is going to be another fantastic party game, perhaps Smash Bors Brawl is, I just don't know. As it stands I'll just wait until the second hand games reach $10, I don't like doing that though as the developer gets ZERO.

Most of the games made by Nintendo are fairly good. When it comes to third party games though, it's really hit and miss (mostly miss). Sure, I have more third party games for my Wii than I did for my Gamecube (not hard, considering ALL my cube games were made by Nintendo), but about the best of the lot (at least that I have) is RE4, and while that's pretty fun it can't compare to the likes of SSBB or SMG.

Also a telling sign is that I got my Wii at launch, and I got my 360 last December. Thanks to buying GoW2 yesterday, I now have the same number of games for both. There's no shortage of games for Wii, just of games worth playing.

Mario Kart is a lot of fun - I can thoroughly recommend that. But yeah that's pretty much all I play at the moment except Wii Fit Boxing when I'm in the mood.

I bought Boom Blox after it was in someone's top-10-Wii-of-2008 and it's fairly simple: carefully throw balls at a structure to knock magic blocks together and knock it all down. It's different but I wouldn't wholeheartedly recommend it - not my cup of tea, too fiddly half the time. I also bought All Star Cheerleader as it uses the Wii Fit board but I haven't tried that yet.

In the meantime I've bought more 360 games than Wii games and (Konedima's fault) racked up loads of Steam games I haven't gotten around to playing.
