I pride myself on not wearing nostalga glasses, and not bitching about "the mainstream" or "the lowest common denominator". I don't think a game is better just because it was made in the1980s, I do not think indy games are better because they have not been tainted by money, and I definitly do not wish games were "simpler".
I like to think that this makes me better than the avrage nerd in the nintendo hoodie who thinks the snes is the BEST EVAR, but today something happened that brought this facade crashing down.
I read this

And holy ****! Neeeerd Raaaaaaaaaaaageeeeeeeeeee! |

Phew....
That's a **** releaf.
However, I still think the auto regen health is BS. Resorce management was a big part of Deus Ex. Weighing options and exploring to find the most efficant way past an obsticle was what made the game fun. If you don't want to count medkits, get the regen aug.
The gritty location baised dammage system also added another layer of detial to the game.
But at this point I have been reduced to a bitter old man (turn 20 in 8 days) the only way to satisfy me would be a straight up remake with a newer engine. (Deus Ex: source, yes please) |

The problem is that games are getting easier. If normal difficulty so much as provides a remote challenge, there's a simultaneous QQ around the world. What's the world coming to when someone with a recognised physical disability (i.e. me) can 100% songs on Guitar Hero on normal difficulty?
Oh, and the other problem is that the last original idea for a game from a large publisher was thought of in the late 90's. |

The only reason I ever played Deus Ex 2 was because of the story and Warren Spector. The game play was so clunky and less dynamic compared with the original. The lack of locatoin based damage, and the elimination of skills, now needing aguments to carry out any task. Plus hacking became totally automated and therefore not fun at all. But with Warren Spector not even going to be involved in DX3, so as far as I'm concerned it won't really be a Deus Ex game and won't be worth the time. |
